In the Ethiopian Orthodox calendar, the year we've just entered into is the year of St. Mark. Our fathers did not name years and days after the moon and the sun. They named them after the Gospels. This is something to be proud of and treasure.
The Gospel of St. Mark is unique among the Gospel writings in that it highlights Jesus' miraculous powers and His mastery over demonic forces. The lion is the most feared among the animals, and in this Gospel He is revealed as the lion of the tribe of Judah. As those who have been redeemed by His blood, we are also lions and we also walk in the power of God. In this new year the lion will roar.
